Isolated Trees in Two Tibetan Plateau Treelines Reveal Growth Plasticity to Harsh Conditions of the Little Ice Age

چکیده
Trees greater than 150 years old growing in the current treelines were most likely isolated tree outposts above previous of Little Ice Age (LIA). An intuitive question is, how did these trees grow at such a high elevation cold environment? Here, we tackle this using tree-ring width data Northern Hemisphere’s highest 4900 m a.s.l. (Basu) and 4680 (Langkazi) on Tibetan Plateau. The results showed that an age-related exponential growth trend not exist ring-width sequences sampled trees. values ring widths had similar pattern probability distribution during after LIA. coefficients variation significantly those non-isolated their common period. Synchronicity annual change radial among varied time. These indicated LIA developed adaptive ability to slow down rate modulate synchronicity individuals stressful environments. Our study highlights plasticity for coping with harsh conditions

It is generally hypothesized that tree growth at the upper treeline is normally controlled by temperature while that at the lower treeline is precipitation limited. However, uniform patterns of inter-annual ring-width variations along altitudinal gradients are also observed in some situations. How changing elevation influences tree growth in the cold and arid Qilian Mountains, on the northeaste...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Little Ice Age (neoglacial) Paleoenvironmental Conditions at Siple Station, Antarctica
The 550-year records of 6180 and dust concentrations from Siple Station, Antarctica suggest warmer and less dusty atmospheric conditions from 1600 to 1830 A.D. which encompasses much of the northern hemisphere Little Ice Age (LIA).· Dust and 6180 data from South Pole Station indicate that the opposite conditions (e.g. cooler and more dusty) were prevalent there during the LIA. Meteorological da...
